firsts are never fun.
anyways, let's start it off in style.
so, I can dig Danger Mouse. I mean, you've got 2005's release, 'The Mouse and the Mask' featuring MF DOOM and a bunch of sampling from Adult Swim; nothing to complain about, really.
in case you need a taster for some legit hip hop, here's some Dangerdoom.
Anyways, add on Gnarls Barkley and the fact that Danger Mouse produced Gorillaz's 'Demon Days' and mixed up a storm with 'The Grey Album' and this guy's got a lot of credit to his name.
So, when I heard that he was collaborating with, of ALL THE POSSIBLE PEOPLE, JAMES MERCER of alternative/folk/all-around-feel-goods band THE SHINS, I was dreadfully confused.
Then I heard it: a seamless blend of Korg happy warm synth sounds with James Mercer's classic vocal styles and there's even a bit of his bell-cymbal tapping that makes the sound so fresh.
Make no mistake, this is more Shins than Danger Mouse.
Take a listen:
It's no masterpiece, but it's definitely intriguing. Watch for the album when it hits March 9th (same day as Gorillaz's 'Plastic Beach', coincidentally. Also set up to be a brilliant album)
For further listening, check out Sea Legs-The Shins, off the album 'Wincing the Night Away'. A beautiful track.
or Danger Mouse's 'The Grey Album'. Good luck finding a torrent, since that's the only way to get it.
peace.
(hopefully the links aren't shit, but...who knows)
music that is sexy.
