freddie happens to be my favorite jazz trumpeter and rightfully so. the guy branches on raw fusion of bebop and funk and it's damn groovy, dude.
this particular track i found when i bought a cd in india and it contained this track which, to the best of my knowledge, is the jazz world's best kept secret. the track is brilliant, but no one seems to know about it.
credits on who's playing what are on the side of the video, so just check those if you're interested.
Freddie Hubbard Quintet-One of A Kind Live at Warsaw 1979
Gorillaz released a new single just yesterday. unfortunately, the main video is un-embeddable so it took some time for some bloke to make a new one that is.
Anyways, it's pretty great and the hype for Plastic Beach grows. The album comes out March 8th in the UK and March 9th in the US.
Gorillaz-Superfast Jellyfish (Feat. Gruff Rhys and De La Soul) Plastic Beach (2010)
Deerhoof kinda branches on the edge of extremely experimental and alternative rock music. some of their tracks will leave you in a daze thinking 'can they really do that?'
fortunately, this isn't really one of those tracks, but if you're interested, I highly recommend their latest notable release (Offend Maggie is a skip for me) Friend Opportunity (2007)
anyways, enjoy.
Deerhoof-Spirit Ditties of No Tone The Runners Four (2005)
flying lotus's 2008 release Los Angeles may be the greatest dub/breakbeat/experimental/hip hop album ever made. it's beautiful and it is the reason why he is my favorite artist of all time.
after Los Angeles's release, three EPs came, entitled Los Angeles '1x3', '2x3', and '3x3' respectively.
they're basically like remix albums and a few have some original tracks.
this is dimlite's remix of the track 'infinitum' by flying lotus, affectionately called the 'refinitum'. it's off LA EP 3x3, which came out last year in 2009. i was lucky enough to get a copy.
it is one of the most beautiful pieces of music i have ever had the pleasure to listen to.
one time i was on youtube and this producer sent me a random playlist of tracks that he (or she?) had written and recorded.
recorded collectively under the name 'The Sound Polaroids', the tracks were hella legit. the problem is that this artist has recieved little to no recognition for the multitude of tracks he/she has up, so i'd like to ask everyone to check it out.
it's not the best, but it'll help get through the day.
The Sound Polaroids-The Heart Labyrinth
The Sound Polaroids-Movement in Three Phases
check out the track 'East Harlem Urban-Amerindian' another one of my favorites.
Remember when I said I was strictly posting hip hop? Well I lied. :) I see no trance on here so I guess I'll start it off. I'm no expert at trance but I recently discovered this song and I thought I should share!
something about hardcore music really gets me. not that screamo, angsty teenager shit we get too often, no. i'm talking about real technical shit, stuff that developed and evolved on its own outside the mainstream musical spectrum.
true hardcore artists are fucking masters of their instrument and their musicality. listening to this is taking a trip.
god i wish these guys were still together.
SiKtH-Bland Street Bloom Death of a Dead Day (2006)
don't judge. just listen. preferably while in a pissed off mood.
Word up to the lyrics of this song! Love everything and don't take ANYTHING for granted! "...I put my heart in this song.. cuz' see hate stirrin' us wrong...!"
OK, I know Valentine's day already past but I just really have to share this song.. DJ Okawari definitely has got to be one of the dopest japanese DJ's out there! Check this out guys.. lovin' the vibe for this beat!
Gorillaz have a new album, 'Plastic Beach' coming on March 9th. I'm stoked as hell for it, but in the meantime, they've released a single called 'Stylo' to sate the thirst.
unfortunately, I'm fairly sure everyone's heard it by now (it's got like what, 300,000 views now?), so I decided to upload this fairly fantastic remix by Labrinth.
Yea, the interwebz contains some pretty interesting stuff for bored people to stumble upon. One of those things are song mashups. Many turn out rather poorly, but here are 2 that I enjoyed.
Viva La Beat It. Yes, Coldplay meets MJ. Fits so well...
A rather famous one, Love Story meets Viva La Vida.
Yea just in the mood for mashups at the moment. No real clue why, I just am.
it's just chillin' underground. A lot of artists need to be more well known! I'm really feelin' this beat right now... Check these guys out!! The NewOld
as sexy as everything else is, nothing turns you on like some nice breakbeat glitch. add on a dope video and you've got yourself a vacation.
here's a track from one of the best out there, Hudson Mohawke. his latest release 'Butter' came out sometime in August of last year (2009). buttery smooth, if i say so myself. video's quite nice too.
HERRO! I'm the new guy! NICE TO MEET Y'ALL... I'll be posting STRICTLY HIP HOP... and some instrumentals down the line! AND by hip hop I do not mean all that MAINSTREAM junk on the radio... On the real, all of it will be lowkey. ALSO, Hip Hop doesn't always have to be just drumloops or rapping or any of that stuff... Hip hop can be ANYTHING!
i.e
PROPS to Paul Dateh and Inka One for the DOPE performance!
Tracks covered: - A Tribe Called Quest: Check the Rhime - Jurassic 5: Canta de Ossanha - Ghostface Killah: Chercez la Ghost - The Roots: The Next Movement - Gnarls Barkley: Crazy - Johnny Pate: Shaft in Africa
i owe the development of my music taste to the people around me. family and friends show me songs/bands early on, i get into it, which eventually leads to my own discovery of eargasms.
NUMERO UNO) i first heard this one on my friend/acquaintance's blog, igniting my obsession with voxtrot.
DOS Y TRES) i recently found, thanks to my friend geoff. plus, he just purchased the fairly new voxtrot EP, which sparked the memory of numero uno. to be honest, i haven't listened to voxtrot since summer.
BONUS! i always like the way Princeton's videos are shot. good cinematography + music = win.
but enough of my ramblings, just listen
and loljk, nvm. i'm gonna include the gorillaz song, only cause this song never gets old
it's an internet meme, and like all internet memes, it just doesn't make sense. the purpose of this video was not for the music, but i really dig this song. i'm not supposed to, but i do. so shut up.
this track caught my eye when I heard it, of ALL places, in the trailer for the movie 'the hills have eyes 2'. movie was shit, yeah, but don't cast off the trailer music as nothing. it's got some sinister sounding acoustic licks with this guy who sounds like he's seen it all.
enjoy.
Devendra Banhart-'Insect Eyes' Album: Rejoicing in the Hands (2004)
Everyone knows this guy. This is nothing new. BUT it still needs to be heard and most people haven't heard this particular version of this track, I imagine.
For anyone who's not in the loop, here's what you're missing:
It's some group/orchestra? of sorts playing Aphex's 'COCK/VER 10'
are legit as hell. Most have no problem with making cheesy beats out of Klavier pianos and electronic drumbeats, but it takes a true artist to make it sound like it's being played as you sweep across misty landscapes and dew-covered forests.
The Sound of Animals Fighting are a supergroup of sorts, comprised of the best musicians in the underground prog rock scene coming together to let loose. Honestly, what they accomplish together is far superior to most of the shit they do by themselves.
All three of their albums (no more will be made, unfortunately) are completely different sounds, but their latest release, 'The Ocean and the Sun', caught me offguard as being one of the best albums I've heard in a while.
so, I can dig Danger Mouse. I mean, you've got 2005's release, 'The Mouse and the Mask' featuring MF DOOM and a bunch of sampling from Adult Swim; nothing to complain about, really. in case you need a taster for some legit hip hop, here's some Dangerdoom.
Anyways, add on Gnarls Barkley and the fact that Danger Mouse produced Gorillaz's 'Demon Days' and mixed up a storm with 'The Grey Album' and this guy's got a lot of credit to his name.
So, when I heard that he was collaborating with, of ALL THE POSSIBLE PEOPLE, JAMES MERCER of alternative/folk/all-around-feel-goods band THE SHINS, I was dreadfully confused. Then I heard it: a seamless blend of Korg happy warm synth sounds with James Mercer's classic vocal styles and there's even a bit of his bell-cymbal tapping that makes the sound so fresh. Make no mistake, this is more Shins than Danger Mouse. Take a listen:
It's no masterpiece, but it's definitely intriguing. Watch for the album when it hits March 9th (same day as Gorillaz's 'Plastic Beach', coincidentally. Also set up to be a brilliant album)
