music that is sexy.

I think it would be nice if we took a break and instead listened to some of my shit. I'll be updating this soundcloud page as I make more and more tracks.

K Os

With his latest album 'Yes!' being compared against Mos Def's 'The Ecstatic' as the best hip hop album of 2009, this guy is gaining more and more recognition for his old school def jam flow style. Spoken word roots echo most in this track which, in my opinion, showcases his value as a rapper in the modern world best. The beat is pretty tripped and isn't the best on the album but the flow is second to none.

Oriol

Perfect beats for summer laidback chilling, Oriol straddles the lines between underground hip hop beatmaking, dance electronica, and Weather Report-esque jazz lines.

Florence and The Machine + The xx

Long before The xx became the sensation they are today, Jamie was showing off his versatility with a series of remixes and underground electro tapes.
Here's his re-imagining of sorts of Florence and The Machine's 'You've Got the Love'.

Florence and The Machine-You've Got the Love (The xx Remix)

The Black Keys

Always good to groove to, their new album is no different. A little more experimental than their usual shit, it's nonetheless good old fashioned garage rock. It's just sexier.

MADVILLAIN

The original Madvillainy release was one of the greatest hip hop albums I've ever listened to. Short tracks set to no-nonsense LA beats changed my ideas of beatmaking forever.
LA Producer Madlib and underground beast DOOM team up together again for a new album under the Madvillain name. Here's the first single and for now, it's a free download off of Stones Throw's site.

DJ AM + Travis Barker

mad respect for AM's passing. here's one of the many mixtapes he did with Travis Barker's drumming. this one focuses on a few Weezy remixes.

edIT

I've put up a post for the Glitch Mob before but never something from edIT. or at least I don't think so, I dunno.

Little Dragon

Spotlighting on upcoming electronic bands, Little Dragon is one to watch out for. Garnering a pretty strong underground following, I heard of them after they featured on Gorillaz' latest album (On the tracks Empire Ants and To Binge)

I'll let the lyrics for this song speak for me.

B.o.B.

But don't trip. This isn't the B.o.B. you hear on the radio (though, I do enjoy the occasional jam to 'Nothing On You'), this is Hudson Mohawke's remix of one of B.o.B.'s older, less popular, and better songs.

(and I said I'd get something up from the ATL RMX album up anyways)

Rest in Peace Seba Jun (Nujabes せば じゅん)

Feb. 26th, 2010.

"A popular Japanese hip-hop artist was killed in a fatal car accident on February 26th. His death and funeral were kept secret from most of the world for unknown reasons. Many speculate it has to do with his very private nature and his lack of being in the limelight while he was alive. He was killed while driving on the Metropolitan Expressway in Tokyo. He was taken to a hospital but attempts to save him were unsuccessful.

The entertainer started his own record company, Hydeout Productions. He released several recordings by those in the hip-hop underground as well as collaborations with artists from around the world. The company will release some of the deceased star’s tracks that he had been working on before his untimely death.

Nujabes also owned two record stores in Tokyo, Guinness Records and T Records. His death came as a shock to his American based friend and collaborator Shing02, who had been trying to reach him the past several weeks. His death is being mourned by many from all around the world."
-Tech News, Tech Jackal.

Take some time to remember that we were all privileged to live when Seba Jun was still alive. Rest in peace man... even though you're gone, you're music will live on forever.......

One of my all time favorite beats by Nujabes.... Thank you... for opening my eyes, as well as millions of others... to true hip-hop.......

Life isn't always easy

This song is pretty deep. Listen up y'all.. when you think there's nothing left, keep searchin'.

yes

i heard wonderful things from multiple sources [NME, nylontv, sharon, etc ] about this band, which just proves how good they are. they've been my prime feel good music for the past few months.

god i dont even know which songs to put on, cause they're literally all so worthy. all so good. check all related videos. all of them.

a little virtuosity

Carnival of Venice is famous for its impossible trumpet part. totally badass.

an extremely well known piece for demonstrating virtuosity is Flight of the Bumblebee by Korsakov. i dont know much about the accordion, but i think this guy is one badass virtuoso.

Mayer Hawthorne

I love Mayer Hawthorne. He's a perfect blend of old-timey melodrama with some dope beats that are standard these days among the stones throw crew.

the video for this song just came out today and it's fantastic.

The offical Stones Throw press release:
"No effects were used to shoot this video. He suddenly woke up with a raining cloud above and we grabbed cameras. It's actually a documentary. Really."

and my favorite that'll just never get old:

Tycho

Ever so often, adultswim.com releases a free compilation album that usually showcases a particular theme or is used for promotional purposes. A few of these include the wonderful Definitive Swim [a hip hop mixtape showcasing underground LA artists], African Swim [fairly self explanatory], and the ATL RMX album [of which I'll be getting a few tracks up soon]. They're all pretty great, but my favorite is the Ghostly Swim compilation: a showcases 19 different artists on Ghostly International Records.

It's not free anymore, but if you could pick up a copy somewhere, I guarantee eargasms.

This is one of the more ethereal tracks on the album. I'm fairly sure this particular version was recorded solely for this album, as it does not appear on his EPs.

freddie hubbard and co.

freddie happens to be my favorite jazz trumpeter and rightfully so.
the guy branches on raw fusion of bebop and funk and it's damn groovy, dude.

this particular track i found when i bought a cd in india and it contained this track which, to the best of my knowledge, is the jazz world's best kept secret. the track is brilliant, but no one seems to know about it.

Gorillaz released a new single just yesterday. unfortunately, the main video is un-embeddable so it took some time for some bloke to make a new one that is.

Deerhoof

Deerhoof kinda branches on the edge of extremely experimental and alternative rock music. some of their tracks will leave you in a daze thinking 'can they really do that?'

fortunately, this isn't really one of those tracks, but if you're interested, I highly recommend their latest notable release (Offend Maggie is a skip for me) Friend Opportunity (2007)

refinitum.

flying lotus's 2008 release Los Angeles may be the greatest dub/breakbeat/experimental/hip hop album ever made. it's beautiful and it is the reason why he is my favorite artist of all time.

after Los Angeles's release, three EPs came, entitled Los Angeles '1x3', '2x3', and '3x3' respectively.

they're basically like remix albums and a few have some original tracks.

this is dimlite's remix of the track 'infinitum' by flying lotus, affectionately called the 'refinitum'. it's off LA EP 3x3, which came out last year in 2009. i was lucky enough to get a copy.

it is one of the most beautiful pieces of music i have ever had the pleasure to listen to.

sometimes

you just need these type of sounds filling up your room

new york unknowns.

one time i was on youtube and this producer sent me a random playlist of tracks that he (or she?) had written and recorded.

recorded collectively under the name 'The Sound Polaroids', the tracks were hella legit. the problem is that this artist has recieved little to no recognition for the multitude of tracks he/she has up, so i'd like to ask everyone to check it out.

it's not the best, but it'll help get through the day.

The Sound Polaroids-The Heart Labyrinth

The Sound Polaroids-Movement in Three Phases

check out the track 'East Harlem Urban-Amerindian' another one of my favorites.

Let's get some classical up here

4:33 by John Cage has always been one of my favorites. 3 movements of "tacet" is truly a work of a genius that's pushing the boundaries of music.

Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" has some of the best dissonances ever created, and not to mention a totally badass bassoon solo.

I lied

Remember when I said I was strictly posting hip hop? Well I lied. :) I see no trance on here so I guess I'll start it off. I'm no expert at trance but I recently discovered this song and I thought I should share!

something about hardcore music really gets me. not that screamo, angsty teenager shit we get too often, no. i'm talking about real technical shit, stuff that developed and evolved on its own outside the mainstream musical spectrum.

true hardcore artists are fucking masters of their instrument and their musicality. listening to this is taking a trip.

there's too little recognized dance pop out there that ISN'T passion pit, MGMT, etc.

i'd like to bring to light 'VEGA', a band i was lucky enough to see live on new years. dope stuff.

Love everything!

Word up to the lyrics of this song! Love everything and don't take ANYTHING for granted! "...I put my heart in this song.. cuz' see hate stirrin' us wrong...!"

OK, I know Valentine's day already past but I just really have to share this song.. DJ Okawari definitely has got to be one of the dopest japanese DJ's out there! Check this out guys.. lovin' the vibe for this beat!

Stylo

Gorillaz have a new album, 'Plastic Beach' coming on March 9th. I'm stoked as hell for it, but in the meantime, they've released a single called 'Stylo' to sate the thirst.

unfortunately, I'm fairly sure everyone's heard it by now (it's got like what, 300,000 views now?), so I decided to upload this fairly fantastic remix by Labrinth.

MASHUP MADNESS

Yea, the interwebz contains some pretty interesting stuff for bored people to stumble upon. One of those things are song mashups. Many turn out rather poorly, but here are 2 that I enjoyed.

Viva La Beat It. Yes, Coldplay meets MJ. Fits so well...

A rather famous one, Love Story meets Viva La Vida.

Yea just in the mood for mashups at the moment. No real clue why, I just am.

'I have some food for you, no not what you eat...'

Erykah Badu: raw soul singing straight from the masai. sexmusic.

GLITCHED.

as sexy as everything else is, nothing turns you on like some nice breakbeat glitch.
add on a dope video and you've got yourself a vacation.

here's a track from one of the best out there, Hudson Mohawke. his latest release 'Butter' came out sometime in August of last year (2009). buttery smooth, if i say so myself. video's quite nice too.

The New Guy: HIP HOP IS EVERYWHERE!

HERRO! I'm the new guy! NICE TO MEET Y'ALL... I'll be posting STRICTLY HIP HOP... and some instrumentals down the line! AND by hip hop I do not mean all that MAINSTREAM junk on the radio... On the real, all of it will be lowkey. ALSO, Hip Hop doesn't always have to be just drumloops or rapping or any of that stuff... Hip hop can be ANYTHING!

feel good

and no not the gorillaz song

i owe the development of my music taste to the people around me. family and friends show me songs/bands early on, i get into it, which eventually leads to my own discovery of eargasms.

NUMERO UNO) i first heard this one on my friend/acquaintance's blog, igniting my obsession with voxtrot.

DOS Y TRES) i recently found, thanks to my friend geoff. plus, he just purchased the fairly new voxtrot EP, which sparked the memory of numero uno. to be honest, i haven't listened to voxtrot since summer.

BONUS! i always like the way Princeton's videos are shot.
good cinematography + music = win.

but enough of my ramblings, just listen

and loljk, nvm. i'm gonna include the gorillaz song, only cause this song never gets old

sinister folk.

this track caught my eye when I heard it, of ALL places, in the trailer for the movie 'the hills have eyes 2'.
movie was shit, yeah, but don't cast off the trailer music as nothing. it's got some sinister sounding acoustic licks with this guy who sounds like he's seen it all.

Aphex Twin

Everyone knows this guy. This is nothing new.
BUT it still needs to be heard and most people haven't heard this particular version of this track, I imagine.

For anyone who's not in the loop, here's what you're missing:

It's some group/orchestra? of sorts playing Aphex's 'COCK/VER 10'

legit as hell.

peace.

Japanese Djs

are legit as hell. Most have no problem with making cheesy beats out of Klavier pianos and electronic drumbeats, but it takes a true artist to make it sound like it's being played as you sweep across misty landscapes and dew-covered forests.

DJ Okawari does just that.

peace.

Experimental-Prog Rock in 6/4

The Sound of Animals Fighting are a supergroup of sorts, comprised of the best musicians in the underground prog rock scene coming together to let loose. Honestly, what they accomplish together is far superior to most of the shit they do by themselves.

All three of their albums (no more will be made, unfortunately) are completely different sounds, but their latest release, 'The Ocean and the Sun', caught me offguard as being one of the best albums I've heard in a while.

immerse.

Spaced Out Acid Jazz

madlib's dope producing over a skilled ensemble brings forth some modal tonality overlaced with middle eastern influence.

peace.

first post.

firsts are never fun.

anyways, let's start it off in style.

so, I can dig Danger Mouse. I mean, you've got 2005's release, 'The Mouse and the Mask' featuring MF DOOM and a bunch of sampling from Adult Swim; nothing to complain about, really.
in case you need a taster for some legit hip hop, here's some Dangerdoom.

Anyways, add on Gnarls Barkley and the fact that Danger Mouse produced Gorillaz's 'Demon Days' and mixed up a storm with 'The Grey Album' and this guy's got a lot of credit to his name.

So, when I heard that he was collaborating with, of ALL THE POSSIBLE PEOPLE, JAMES MERCER of alternative/folk/all-around-feel-goods band THE SHINS, I was dreadfully confused.
Then I heard it: a seamless blend of Korg happy warm synth sounds with James Mercer's classic vocal styles and there's even a bit of his bell-cymbal tapping that makes the sound so fresh.
Make no mistake, this is more Shins than Danger Mouse.
Take a listen:

It's no masterpiece, but it's definitely intriguing. Watch for the album when it hits March 9th (same day as Gorillaz's 'Plastic Beach', coincidentally. Also set up to be a brilliant album)

For further listening, check out Sea Legs-The Shins, off the album 'Wincing the Night Away'. A beautiful track.

or Danger Mouse's 'The Grey Album'. Good luck finding a torrent, since that's the only way to get it.

peace.
